Rock Challenge 2013 |
For the last 5 months 40 pupils in year 8 and 9 have been rehearsing for Rock Challenge 2013. Rock Challenge is a global dance/drama competition. The event hopes to raise drug awareness and give pupils a chance to get a natural high from performing without the use of tobacco, alcohol or other drugs.
St Joseph’s pupils performed at Portsmouth Guildhall on 25th April in front of a packed audience. They competed against 9 other schools. St Joseph’s received 3 awards on the night for: promoting Healthy Lifestyles in school; raising Drug Awareness in the community; and for best soundtrack. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day and are hoping to enter the competition again next year. I would like to thank the pupils for all their hard-work and the staff and parents who supported the event.

Scholarship Awarded |
Jaymee, a promising runner in Year 9, has been awarded £250 from the Mike Slade scholarship fund towards the cost of a high performance training camp later in the year. The fund was set up in memory of Councillor Slade who was a keen sportsman to help young athletes develop their potential. Later in the month Jaymee is competing for Wiltshire at the English Schools cross country championships in Derby. |

Riding for the Disabled Raffle Success |
Last term three members of year 11 held a raffle in support of Riding for the Disabled in Wilton. All three girls have worked at the centre and they wanted to do something to say thank you for the support they have been given. With the proceeds of the collection a grooming kit, lead reins and a numner were presented to the RDA and two ponies were adopted. I have attached a photograph of the girls with the adoption certificate and photographs of the ponies. |
